Sarasota Orchestra currently has a full-time job opening for a Technical Director. The successful candidate will oversee all audio requirements for Orchestra programs, including Youth Orchestras and Sarasota Music Festival. Provide archival recordings for Sarasota Orchestra, Youth Orchestra and SMF programs. Oversee sound systems in Beatrice Friedman Symphony Center and perform or oversee video aspects of concerts.
Responsibilities for this position include (but are not limited to):

Oversee technical aspects (audio and visual) of Orchestra concerts and rehearsals, comply with technical riders, coordinate with outside sound and video contractors
Edit Masterworks audio recordings for local Public Radio broadcast; ensure compliance with Collective Bargaining Agreement recording protocols; work with Music Director, Staff Conductors and Director of Artistic Planning toward final broadcast quality; submit final broadcast recordings
Edit audio and visual recordings for grants; work closely with Vice President of Operations and Director of Artistic Planning on all edits
Record performances (chamber concerts, educational concerts, SMF concerts, other concerts as requested by the Music Director and Director of Artistic Planning)
Oversee and maintain sound systems in Beatrice Friedman Symphony Center
Set up and run cameras in all venues; edit video and sound when necessary for streaming, archival or grant purposes
Train production staff in basic operation of in-house recording systems in Beatrice Friedman Symphony Center
Create budget estimates and manage costs for A/V technology and services supporting program activities
Provide technical support for events including Board of Director meetings, Development events, volunteer meetings, rentals
Assist with rentals and other facilities related matters as needed
Assist in the execution of orchestra set ups/tear downs for SO and Youth Orchestra services in all performance venues
Communicate and maintain positive relationships with orchestra musicians, conductors and staff

The successful candidate will possess:

Bachelor’s Degree
Strong, proven background in audio engineering in a professional environment
Knowledge of basic lighting and video systems
Music background and training with experience in symphonic music
Ability to work flexible hours, including some nights and weekends
Ability to work with Conductors, Musicians, Staff, Volunteers
Ability to work in a fast paced, deadline driven, team environment, while maintaining a calm, professional demeanor
